Skillet Scores First Billboard Music Award for “Top Christian Album” & Lands Spot On Transformers 3 Soundtrack

The RIAA Gold certified Awake continues to garner recognition for the GRAMMY® nominated Skillet as they were honored with their first Billboard Music Award Sunday night for “Top Christian Album.” The 2011 Billboard Music Awards were televised live from Las Vegas, Sunday, March 22nd on ABC.

In addition, the band has landed a coveted spot on the upcoming TRANSFORMERS 3 DARK OF THE MOON Soundtrack (June 14). More details about the soundtrack will be announced soon.

Along with Awake being certified gold in just 10 months (with scans currently approaching 750,000), the record thus far has boasted three active rock hits, including their first No. 1 at mainstream active rock with “Awake & Alive,” and was Billboard’s No. 2 “Top Christian Album” and No. 9 “Top Alternative Album” of 2010. After an incredible 90 weeks of release Awake continues to be a top seller, placing top 5 on the Current Contemporary Christian SoundScan chart last week as well as holding steadfast on the Billboard Top 200.

Skillet A Finalist For 2011 Billboard Music Awards

Skillet is a finalist in two categories in this year’s Billboard Music Awards. Their latest album Awake is up for Top Christian Album alongside tobyMac’s Tonight, MercyMe’s The Generous Mr. Lovewell, Chris Tomlin’s And If Our God Is For Us, and this year’s WOW Hits compilation. Also, the band itself is a finalist for Top Christian Artist among the previously mentioned artists and Casting Crowns.

The 2011 Billboard Music Awards will air Sunday night, May 22nd at 8-11pm ET/PT on ABC. Tune in to see if Skillet wins!
